‘Campus Blues’ now in stores

Dimapur, December 13 (MExN): Sentilong Ozukum’s debut novel Campus Blues is now available for purchase as an e-book at the Amazon Kindle store. A special paperback edition of the novel is also available for purchase in the bookstores. The novel originally published in 2010 created a huge fan-following in Nagaland upon its release and was also adapted into a mini television series by doordharshaan.

 

Noyingbeni T. Erui, Asst. Professor, English, Tetso College Dimapur recalls that she laughed till her sides ached when she read the novel in 2010. “The end of the novel kept me open-mouthed and in tears. I kept praying that there would be a sequel to it.”

 

The novel tells the story of Moluti Jamir, who is studying literature in the only Govt. College of the town against the wishes of his father after failing to crack the MBBS exam twice. He falls in love with a senior and is hell bent on winning her love with the help of his best friend who is not so keen on helping him.

 

The book is a satire on the current education system of the country doused with humour, sarcasm and wit. Tiakumzuk, Director, Dreamz Unlimited recalls that Campus Blues was the first book he read by a Naga author and he was so engrossed in the story that he finished reading it in one go which was surprising to him because he hardly read books then. “I liked the humour and innocence of the story,” he adds, “It took me back to my college days.” OtoliYeptho, Asst Professor, English, Don Bosco College, Kohima recalls, ‘Way back when I read the novel, I laughed, smiled and cried and every time I read it again, my heart skips a beat, leaving me teary eyed.’

 

Sentilong Ozukum is also the author of Sincerely Yours, a collection of short stories published in 2017.A couple of the short stories from the book have been adapted into short films. Meanwhile, the author has announced that the sequel to Campus Blues is all set to be released by the Spring of 2020.
