Kohima, December 9 (MExN): The Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) organised it first ever leaders’ animation cum pre-Christmas get-together at Christ King Church, Kohima Village on December 9.
Most Rev. Thomas Menamparampil SDB, Archbishop Emeritus Archdiocese of Guwahati animated the leaders with a reflection on the theme ‘Hope for the Future’.
In the first session, Bishop Thomas reiterated the importance of living the traditional tribal values of life and knowledge of one true self. Stating that everyone needs to identify one’s uniqueness in silence, he stressed on the significance of realising the traditional values of goodness, honesty, kindness, hospitality, truthfulness and many other good qualities and values our ancestors have sowed.
“It is in quiet moment that we discover the rich values of our own culture,” he stated, according to a press release.
Meanwhile, Bishop Thomas based on the scripture challenged the leaders of the church to get rooted in the words of the bible and to live a practicing faith. “Be faithful to Christian tradition; grow up in body, wisdom, gaining favour with God and men.” He opined that the greatness of a Christian community does not consist in its material achievements, but the quality of its spiritual pursuit. He concluded the discourse by quoting Shakespeare, “To thine own self be true.”
The second session was the pre-Christmas programme, which was chaired by Zeneikho Benedict. Bishop of Kohima Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, who sponsored the event, in his message reminded the faithful present to let Jesus be born daily in their lives. He called upon them to allow and create space of the good values of life to grow and take root. The programme saw Carol Choir from ACYA of Christ King Church, SFS church and Cathedral church.
