CAN Youth conducts awareness on mental Health and substance abuse in Dimapur

Dimapur, September 17 (MExN): Can Youth, in collaboration with the State Mental Health Programme, conducted an awareness programme on Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and Social Well-being at the Thaheku Village Baptist Church (TVBC), Dimapur. 

The event was part of a six-month campaign aimed at adolescents under the theme “I CAN” – Integrated Comprehensive Adolescents Nurturing.

The programme was chaired by Binod Dey, Assistant Project Developer at Can Youth, while Ruth Chishi, Children Pastor of TVBC, delivered the invocation. Tolim Somba, Networking Coordinator of Can Youth, welcomed attendees and stressed the importance of addressing mental health and substance abuse issues among adolescents.

Dr. Temsuyanger, a psychiatrist with the District Mental Health Programme, led the first session, discussing the psychological challenges faced by adolescents and the importance of early intervention in mental health. The second session, conducted by Kilentola Jamir, a Human Skill Development Facilitator and Holistic Counsellor, focused on substance abuse and its impact on adolescents. Jamir shared her personal story of her father’s battle with cancer caused by substance abuse, adding a personal dimension to her talk on building resilience and fostering a healthy environment for young people.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Nganga, Office Secretary of Can Youth.
