Candidates asked to register vehicle used for electioneering

Mokokchung, April 18 (DIPR): Deputy Commissioner & Returning Officer Mokokchung, Lithrongla G. Chishi has informed all the contesting candidates to register their vehicle being used for electioneering/campaign purposes in the office of the District Election officer & Returning Officer for obtaining permit. She said the permit obtained from the DEO & RO should be displayed on the windscreen of the vehicles.
Quoting decision of the Election Commission of India, the Returning Officer Mokokchung said the vehicles of political parties and candidates moving in a convoy shall not have more than ten vehicles excluding the security vehicle, if any, provided to the candidates, leaders of political parties etc. in that convoy.
On the day of polling contesting candidate is entitled one vehicle for his use, one vehicle for use of his election agent and in addition, one vehicle for use of his workers or party workers, Lithrongla said, adding vehicles employed for election campaign should be accounted in their Account of election Expenses.  She further informed any vehicle that has not been registered for campaigning, shall be deemed to be unauthorized campaigning for the candidate and may attract penal provision for Chapter 1X A of the Indian penal code and shall therefore be immediately taken out of the campaigning exercise.
