Yimchungrü orgs resolve for free and fair voting
Dimapur, February 10 (MExN): An emergency joint meeting of several Yimchungrü apex organisations, on February 9, have resolved to strictly prohibit use of force or money for vote during forthcoming General Election to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly 2018.
Successful candidates will also be assessed as per manifesto after elections.
For ensuring free and fair voting, several other guidelines were passed during the meeting.
The joint meeting had Yimchungrü Tribal Council (YTC), Yimchungrü Baptist Borü Amukhungto (YBBA), Shamator Town Public Forum (STPF), Shamator Town Students Union (STSU) and Yimchungberü (Women) Arihako Shamator Town in attendance.
Among others, the guidelines banned carrying of arms, alcohol, drugs or any intoxicated items during the elections. Further, no party/group shall be allowed to damage any personal or public properties, blocking the roads or causing inconvenience to the general commuters during election campaign.
“If any damage occurs, the concern individual will be fully responsible for the damage and will be forwarded for arrest and kept till election is over,” stated the guidelines released to media in a joint statement by YTC President, Keozhih, YBBA Executive Secretary, SJ Akhum and YBBA Mission Secretary, Khalen.
The guidelines are made in order to ensure that all the political parties are well informed and to control the movement and activities which may be detrimental to the society, it said.
Exchange of unacceptable languages detrimental to the fabric of Yimchungrü society, procession, propagating ill against other parties, threatening of life etc were also striclty prohibited under the guidelines.
“Befitting action will be initiated upon the defaulting individual as per deemed fit,” it added.
It further encouraged setting up of “one party-one camp” stating that “many camps may incur unnecessary expenditures and create anti-social elements.”
All the churches under YBBA have been requested to pray for the conduct of election in peaceful and conducive manner.
