Candidates for 3 Dimapur – III A/C have pledged for a clean election with a rider that the public stand for the same. The pledge was taken at the end of the Common Platform Programme organized by East Dimapur Sumi Youth Organization under the theme, ‘Know your Leaders’ at Mandeville Garden, Purana Bazaar on Wednesday.
The gathered public were the first to take the pledge, “I stand for clean election” which was followed by the candidates. NPF Candidate, Azheto Zhimomi said, “If electors are ready, then I am also ready for clean election.” NDPP Candidate, Tokheho Yepthomi said, “I stand for clean election, however, public should also stand for clean election.”
Congress Candidate, Lun Tunglung said, “I stand for clean election else our society will be destroyed.” NPP Candidate, Wedie-u Kronu who left in a hurry after her speech without taking any questions from the public did not take the pledge.
Representatives of the candidates highlighted their respective political parties’ manifestoes.
Addressing the gathering, Tokheho said that the NDPP aimed at introducing pre-paid meter system for electricity which is estimated to cost around Rs 30 crores. Tokheho also said that the party would accord top priority for establishing technical colleges in the state and water supply to Dimapur and surrounding areas. Another objective of the party he mentioned was granting 50 % subsidy to young entrepreneurs, if elected to power.
Lun Tunglung spoke strongly against the menace of corruption and added that the disease mainly affects the poor. He said that the public would face the same situation like the past five years if they re-elect the same leaders. This statement prompted Tokheho who spoke later to clarify that all 60 elected members were not corrupt though he admitted to have been a part of the commissions and omissions during the passing tenure.
Lun appealed the public to not fight amongst themselves taking sides in favour of the contesting candidates but to look at the capabilities of candidates without taking into account the tribal factors.
Azheto assured of promoting and safeguarding the rights of minorities and push for a peaceful co-existence. Responding to queries from the public, Azheto spoke about according top priority to constituency development and youth empowerment, if elected.
Kronu said that her priority if elected would be to give focus to roads, schools and hospitals. She said one has to be in the system if corruption has to be uprooted.
The programme was attended by hundreds of voters from 3 Dimapur – III A/C.
