Candlelight service in Mokokchung honours Dr T Senka Yaden

The Ao Students’ Conference organised a candlelight service at the Main Police Point in Mokokchung  on Monday evening to honour the life and legacy of Dr T Senka Yaden, a renowned scientist and an inspiration to the community.

Dr Yaden, widely known as the “American Man of Science,” passed away on March 14, leaving behind a legacy of scientific excellence and deep community engagement. The service saw the participation of students, civil society members, and citizens, all gathering to pay tribute to his remarkable contributions.

Lanutoshi Aier, President of the Ao Students’ Conference, recalled Dr. Yaden’s involvement with the organization, highlighting his visit during AKM’s Golden Jubilee in 1979. He noted that Dr. Yaden had not only donated $100 to the conference but also initiated a pledge to uphold the true spirit of AKM. Tributes were also delivered by Imtipokyim Longkumer, General Secretary of Ao Senden, and Dr. R. Zulu Jamir, Associate Pastor of Kumlong Baptist Arogo, who reflected on Dr. Yaden’s profound wisdom and contributions. They urged younger generations to follow in his footsteps.

The Merangkong Medemsanger Putu expressed gratitude for the tribute to their esteemed son. It was noted that Dr. Yaden, who founded the Naga fellowship in America, remained deeply connected to his roots, cherishing his homeland’s traditions and cuisine until his last days. He was also remembered as a man of faith who kept God at the center of his life, embracing Naga culture and traditions even while living in a distant land.
