Candlelight vigil at Clock Tower Dimapur

Hundreds of people gathered at Clock Tower Junction, Dimapur on Wednesday to participate at a candlelight vigil organized by Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK) in honour of Late Isak Chishi Swu, Yaruiwo, NSCN (IM), who passed away on June 28 in Delhi.  

People, both old and young from different walks of life lighted candles at the base of Clock Tower, Circular Road, Flyover Bridge and other locations in Dimapur as a mark of respect to the departed Naga leader.  

The Morung Express garnered opinions and feelings of the people gathered at the venue on the departed NSCN leader.   SKK President, Ninoto Awomi described the demise of Isak Chishi Swu as a fatherly figure whose selfless sacrifices, dedication and commitment to the cause of the Naga struggle will always be remembered in the history of the Naga people.  

Former President, NSF, Phushika Awomi said, “Late Isak was  a towering  figure to us and in spite of harsh political weather, he proved himself to be an able statesman and a diplomat who successfully built international relationships and took the Naga issue to international limelight which was once curtailed by India.”  

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, President, Sungkum Ao said that the departed leader fought for the cause of the Naga people till his last breath.  

Dr. Khekugha Murru, a Dimapur based businessman had this to say about the NSCN leader, “His ideal in life for love of God, peace and unity is loved by all. It is a great loss for the Nagas.  

Sumi Totimi Hoho, President, Kitoli Naje said, “We desired that Late Isak Chishi Swu taste the fruits of Naga political solution for which he dedicated his life but this is all God’s will. His demise is an irreparable loss not only to the Sumis but to the entire Naga people.”  

Another concerned citizen, Hukato Assumi said people might have different opinions about Isak Chishi Swu but the fact that he was placed in the highest position of Naga patriotic movement is a clear reflection of divine arrangement.
