Kohima, March 20 (DIPR): The inaugural programme for first batch of Training on Capacity Building in IT and Digital Services (including digital payments and GST) for State government officials of Nagaland was held at National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT)Kohima auditorium on March 20. IGP Sandeep M Tamgadge, IPS, was the chief guest of the programme.
Comparing Information Technology ten years back with the present day, Sandeep said, “IT has changed so drastically in the last ten years, now I don’t actually need to have any physical memory since my smart phone is good enough to practically remember everything.” He mentioned the importance of IT through examples of recharging Tata Sky, booking for restaurants etc online.
“20 years back there was apprehension that we will lose half of the Government jobs with the entry of IT, which has now been proved otherwise,” Tamgadge said. “Y2K phenomenon was the biggest hoax in IT world since it has crashed as predicted. We need to know how to use IT tools for betterment of delivery of services,” he asserted.
Explaining the purpose of the training, Tamgadge stated that public, government and professional life are all touched by IT. All the government activities are governed in some manner by some sort of IT; slowly IT has taken our lives in control, the chief guest maintained.
With e-Governance, he added, everything will be done through online application five years down the line.
He further informed that last year, in order to make digital payment easier, the GoI introduced BHIM app, which can link all bank accounts and can make payment just through fingerprints and without cards or cash. “It is our choice to remain stagnant or to move ahead and make our lives easier,” he added.
Director NIELIT Kohima, Er. Lanuwabang in his keynote address highlighted the activities and the projects undertaken by NIELIT since its inception in October 2003. In order to effectively offer services to the public, the first step is to empower the employees, he stated, asking “Unless you know how to use IT, how can you give services to the citizens?”
It was informed that the Ministry of DoNER has entrusted NIELIT to train 50,000 government employees across the eight North-Eastern states within a span of three years. Training includes the basics of office work, day to day operation of digital payment, GST etc.
The training will be held seven hours per day for fourteen days. “We want everything to be transparent and not just a namesake training so we are taking biometric attendance and certificate will be generated online at the end of the training,” the Director added.
Training kits were distributed to the participants during the programme sponsored by Ministry of DoNER, Government of India.
