Capacity building on ODF sustainability for rural bodies

The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), (Urban), Kohima conducted a training on "capacity building on Open defecation free (ODF) sustainability for Rural bodies" at the conference hall of Kohima Urban Division Kohima on October 12.  

It was sponsored by Rural Development Department.  

Er P Khetoi Sema, EE, Kohima Urban Div, PHED delivered the welcome address for the training program and the training was conducted by Thenusou Sekhose, HRD Consultant, WSSO, PHED.  

She highlighted the impact of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) program and stated that access to Sanitation has grown enormously in India from 39% to 93%.  

“As Nagaland has become an ODF State, attention is now moving to sustainability initiatives for IEC, Capacity building and Swachhagrahis (Foot Soldiers),” he said.  

Sekhose also emphasised on sustaining the ODF status at the core of the SBM where the individual Household Latrine (IHHL) constructed under SBM should continue to function and ensure continuous usage of toilets; practice self hygiene behavior; maintain the ODF status; and operation and maintenance to be done by community themselves.  

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Er Abinuo Peki, SDO, PHED. Invocation by Ketsizo Medom (Chairman, Chede Model Village) and the vote of thanks was pronounced by Er Theyiesetuo Khruomo.
