‘Capacity building strengthens democracy,’ says Nagaland Deputy Speaker at AIPOC

Kohima, January 21 (MExN): Nagaland Deputy Speaker S Toiho Yeptho, along with the Secretary-in-Charge and accompanying officers of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, attended the 86th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference (AIPOC) held from January 18 to 21 at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

During the first plenary session, Deputy Speaker Yeptho delivered an address on the theme, “Capacity Building of Legislators to Increase Efficiency and Strengthen Democratic Governance.”

Highlighting rising public expectations and rapid technological changes, he stressed the need for legislators to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge to effectively respond to evolving governance challenges. He emphasised the importance of equipping elected representatives with appropriate tools, knowledge and competencies to serve the people efficiently.

“Effective capacity building not only enhances legislative efficiency but also strengthens the democratic fabric of the nation,” Yeptho said.

He further highlighted Nagaland’s progress in adopting best practices, stating that the state was not far behind other parts of the country in strengthening democratic governance. While expressing pride in the state’s legislative advancements, he also underlined the importance of learning from the diverse experiences shared during the conference deliberations.
