One person was killed and another injured after a vehicle fell over the broken Dhansiri Bridge at Full Nagarjan (Kuda), Dimapur on the intervening night of February 22-23. The accident occurred around midnight.
The Dimapur police quoting eyewitness accounts said that the vehicle – a Mahindra Bolero (NL07 C 7002) – with two occupants was proceeding towards town from the Full Nagarjan side. The vehicle, as per the accounts, “went out of control” and flipped over the right railing of the bridge crash landing on the river bank below.
The one driving sustained multiple injuries and the co-passenger survived with minor injury. The driver, identified as Kughato Yepthomi of Zhekishe village, succumbed to injury on the way to hospital, the police said. The co-passenger, identified as Kiheto Zhimo, was released after receiving first-aid at the District Hospital.
While there was allegation against the police for allowing vehicles to ply on the broken bridge, the police defended that the cause of the accident was due to rash driving under the influence of liquor.
