Career conference in Meluri: 500 school students participate

Meluri, April 29 (MExN): To provide opportunity for students to interact with professionals so they can make judicious decision for their future careers, the Guidance and Counselling Cell, SCERT Nagaland organized a career conference on April 28 at Meluri Village Council Hall.  

Around 500 secondary and higher secondary students from Government Higher Secondary School, Meluri, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Meluri, and Christian School, Meluri participated in the conference, which was chaired by Narisa, State Coordinator for North East Career Club.  

The conference was facilitated by various resource persons. Dr. Zavise Rume, Associate Professor, SCERT Nagaland spoke on academic guidance and skill-based career opportunities in the modern world of work, Benjamin Longkap, SDO (Civil), Meluri spoke on ‘How to prepare for civil services examinations’, Jackson Ngouri, Junior Engineer, PWD and Jievitho Nyuthe, State Coordinator, North East Career Club dwelt on how to identify one’s individual abilities, interest and aptitude so as to enable them make career decision based on their individual potentials.  

In the interactive session, the students raised several questions, according to a press release from Dr. Zavise Rume, who is also State Nodal Officer for Guidance & Counselling Cell, SCERT Nagaland.  

“The resource persons explored every possibility in finding out many newly emerging careers that are highly job-oriented and employable... The participants were oriented on how to develop multiple skills so as to help them in suiting into various skill-based career opportunities,” it stated.  

The participants, the release added, were informed about various competitions for civil services and different methods of study the students can adopt when they are in the school or college were explored. The conference also discussed the need of Mathematics and Science so as to enable the students opt for technical courses like medicine, paramedical, and engineering, it said.  

Earlier, Narisa and Jievitho Nyuthe encouraged the student participants to become a member of the North East Career Club to make career guidance a movement in North East region.  

The conference was also attended by many Trainer of Teachers (TOT), civil service officers, and school principals.  

The release mentioned that the students and teachers requested the SCERT Nagaland to organize such programme, a first of its kind held in Meluri, on regular basis.
