Exemplifying that care for the elderly reflects a community’s values and identity, Friends of 80plus, Kohima Village brought together 95 elderly citizens aged 80 years and above at Tsiera Hall, L Khel, Kohima Village to mark its 21st Foundation Day on April 30.
Formed in 2006 with around 30 volunteers from diverse walks of life in the age group of 25 to 80 years, the non-governmental and non-profit initiative has since played a key role in providing support, companionship and recognition to elderly members of the community.
Presenting the report, Er Medozhazo Rutsa said the 21st Foundation Day stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of community service and collective responsibility. He said the occasion honours those who have shaped the legacy of Kohima Village while reaffirming commitment to the care, dignity and well-being of its senior-most citizens, described as “our cherished octogenarians, nonagenarians and centenarians”.

Their lives and contributions remain deeply valued and continue to inspire the community,” he said. A moment of silence was observed in their memory.
The programme was chaired by Vilakuolie Mere. Highlights included an opening prayer by Rev Vichülie Kelio, Pastor, CRC Kohima Village, and a special number presented by Friends of 80plus.
During the event, prayers were offered for the health and longevity of the elderly, who in turn sought blessings for Kohima Village. A free medical check-up for the elderly was also provided by the Kohima Village Doctors Association.
