
CHOZUBA (PHEK DISTRICT), JANUARY 4 (MExN): The 43rd tourney of Chozuba Area Sports’ Association (CASA) started here this morning at Chozuba town local ground. However, minister for health & family welfare Kuzholuzo Nienu, who was the chief guest, could not turn up for the event. In pace of the minister, the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) president Sovenyi attended the event as the chief guest and brought greetings from the minister for the success of the tourney and asked the sports persons to exhibit their best talents and bring fame and glory not only to their names but to the entire community.
Games and sports, he said, brings friendship, unity and peace among the people and urged upon denizens of Chozuba area to make the best use of such platform and continue to maintain the spirit of oneness and excel together in all fields of life. CPO president also called upon the participants to ensure that a sporting spirit prevailed throughout the five day long tourney. Sovenyi asserted that the atmosphere of fair play would not only bring enthusiastic and competitive spirit among them but it would also bring delight to the viewers. Also touching on the rapid progress of the society in the 21st century, Sovenyi challenged the people of the area to seriously ponder over various matter of concern be it sports, socio-economic and the like so as to compete with the rest of the world.
Earlier, Rüsangoyi Medeo, president CASA delivered presidential address while Vesupra Luru-o, advisory board member CASA chaired the opening ceremony. Razukuyi Khusoh, president Yorubami Youth Association spoke on behalf of the hosting unit while word of acknowledgment was pronounced by Thupule Lohe, president Chozuba Range Public Organization.
The opening ceremony was also marked by special numbers from Veswüduyi Tetseo, Naga idol contestant and Nutsoyi Rio & friends while the hosting unit presented an enchanting folk song.
A good number of sportspersons from seven units are vying for coveted champion title in arm wrestling, track and field events, volleyball, basketball and football. The winners/selected players from this tourney would represent CASA at the forthcoming sports meet of Phek District Sports Association in the latter part of January.
Meanwhile, CASA has conferred award to Shepoyi Ringa in recognition of his contribution to the Association as well as his achievements and commendable service towards the upliftment of games and sports within Chozuba area.
The sports event commenced after CASA sports secretary Kükuso Lüruo administered oath to seven participating units.
The tournament will conclude on January 8 with Temsunaro Aier, Additional Deputy Commissioner Chozuba as the guest of honour.
