‘Case against Rio filed with no vested interest’

Kohima, June 4 (MExN): Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu today clarified that the case against Neiphiu Rio, Lok Sabha MP, regarding the use of alleged false educational certificate has not been filed with any vested interest on the political scenario, but as an academic and social activist.

“The instant case of the fake and false certificate of BA Honours used by the MP is a Criminal Complaint filed by me through my lawyers” against N. Rio, under sections 417,463/465/466/468/471 of the Indian Penal Code, read with section 125 A of the Representation of People's Act, 1951, Dr. Rosemary stated in a press release.

The complaint, the release said, has been filed against Rio on the ground that he had filed false statements in the affidavit along with the nomination papers during the election to the Lok Sabha which took place on April 9, 2014. “It is stated that that he had obtained the fake educational certificate from Kohima College and used it to enhance his image in the public record and before the people of the state, thereby committing offences under sections 417,463/465/466/468/471 and 174 of the IPC, r/w the section 125 A of the Representation of People's Act, 1951,” the release added.

Dr. Rosemary further informed that “an application for condonation of delay has also been filed to meet the ends of justice. Notice has been issued to the respondent and he has asked for time twice, which has been granted.” The matter, she said, has been fixed for June 26.
