Case registered against dog shooting incident in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, July 2 (MExN): Taking cognizance of the killing of dogs which reportedly took place at Changki Village on July 1, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mokokchung has informed that an FIR was filed at the Mangkolemba Police Station on July 2 and a case has been registered under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.


The case is currently under investigation as per the information received from the Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, the DC said.  Such forms of cruelties are in direct violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and the Acts and Rules under Animal Welfare Board of India, the DC said in a press release on Thursday.


Reiterating orders issued earlier by the DC’s office against such offences on May 21 and June 15 last, the DC said that strict legal proceedings will be initiated under Sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 against any Village Authorities/Ward Authorities/Individuals/Groups acting in contravention to the Act.

 

SPCA Mokokchung flays incident 
 The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Mokokchung expressed dismay at the killing of pet dogs at Changki village in Mokokchung district.


Condemning the act, SPCA Mokokchung said that the ‘shoot-at-sight’ order on dogs has been declared by the DC’s order on May 21 as a punishable offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCAA) 1960 and the guidelines of the Animal Welfare Board of India. 


It expressed hope the district administration will take appropriate action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the PCAA against the culprits who have acted in violation of the order.
