Dimapur, March 7 (MExN): “Education is the key to integral progress,” said N. Jacob Zhimomi, parliamentary secretary of Irrigation & Flood Control, while inaugurating St. Joseph’s School and St. Ann’s Convent, Niuland on March 7.
Recalling his own personal experiences in the Catholic school, and being proud of the fact that he is a product of Catholic education, he thanked the Catholic Church in Nagaland for doing a yeomen service in the education of the young and said that he admired the Church’s commitment and service with a human touch. He said that education is a joint venture and parents should not shirk their responsibility. They should also support the school in each locality by sending to the school in the place instead of sending them to far way places. He also thanked the Church for the huge investment made in the campus and informed the public that he has assigned Niuland as a special development zone and expects faster and better road connectivity to the place.
Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, blessed the building. While thanking all present, particularly Frs. George Punnolil and Jose Sebastian, in-charge of the finance and construction in the diocese, Fr. Devaraj for the local supervision, Vikiye, head GB for local support Sisters of St. Ann’s of Luzern for coming to Nagaland for sharing in the mission of the Church, he said that over one crore sixty one lakhs have been spend for the various developmental work in the campus during the last two and a half years. The Church puts all its resources, that is generated from the state and all that can be gathered from outside the state for the development of our people because the Church is committed totally to be at the service of the people of Nagaland.
Rev. Fr. Devaraj, Principal of the St. Joseph’s School, Nuiland accorded words of welcomed to N. Jacob Zhimomi, the chief guest, Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Nagaland, Vikiye, Head GB, VIyito Village, Village Leaders, Government officials, fathers, sisters, parents of the children, invited guests.
Vikiye, Head G.B - Viyito Village also spoke on the occasion and requested the general public to give their maximum cooperation for the growth and development of the school. Daniel anchored the programme, during which the children of the school presented action song, traditional show and choreography. Rev. Sr. Jeena, St. Ann’s Convent, Viyito, Niuland proposed the vote of thanks. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu, Bishop’s Secretary, Kohima in a press release said that the celebration ended with a meal served to all.
