CBI arrests former PNB manager and Dimapur businessman in bribery case

Dimapur, June 7 (MExN): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a former senior manager of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Dimapur and the proprietor of a private firm for allegedly engaging in a bribery scheme involving bank credit extensions, officials said on Saturday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Seiminthang Singson, then senior manager of PNB Dimapur, and Sanjit Chandra Dey, proprietor of Century Enterprises based in Dhobinala, Dimapur.

According to a CBI statement, Singson allegedly received an undue advantage of Rs 1 lakh from Dey for facilitating an extension of the firm’s Cash Credit Limit of Rs 20 lakh, despite the company being in poor financial health.

The case was registered on June 4. The arrests followed searches conducted at seven locations—five in Dimapur and two in Guwahati—on June 6 and 7. During the raids, investigators recovered documents and articles considered incriminating.

The agency said that so far, the investigation has revealed that Singson received a total of Rs 1.69 lakh from Dey. In addition, invoices amounting to Rs 2.06 lakh related to the purchase of electrical and electronic items in Singson’s name were seized from Dey’s office. Some of these items were recovered from Singson's residences in Dimapur and Guwahati.

Both men will be produced before competent courts in Dimapur and Guwahati, the CBI said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
