CBI arrives in Kohima to investigate NU

A team of officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have arrived in Kohima, Nagaland’s capital today to investigate alleged anomalies in Nagaland University. Nagaland University has been beset by frequent protests and complaints for a long time from students and teachers over financial anomalies and corruption. 

Sources revealed that the CBI team has been deputed by the President of India and would be conducting investigation into various alleged anomalies, including financial implications involving crores of rupees allegedly being misused by top NU authorities. Meanwhile, sources revealed that the Executive Council, the apex governing body of the university has put the Controller of Examination Tongpang Ao under suspension from August 31 last. The Executive Council’s decision reportedly came following the intervention of the Visitor, also  the President of India. The Visitor had reportedly directed the university to immediately initiate action against the erring official indicted in a Rs.33 lakh scam.
