CCPO issues public appeal over two-lane road maintenance in Phek

Phek, February 15 (MExN): The Centre Chakhesang Public Organisation (CCPO), headquartered at Sakraba in Phek district, has issued a public appeal directing individuals and groups to refrain from activities affecting the maintenance and safety of the two-lane road under the SARDP-NE project.

The organisation stated that the appeal was brought into the public domain following several complaints received from the general public.

The CCPO recalled earlier orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Phek, in May 2023 and September 2024, and informed that it had adopted a resolution on December 6, 2023 at Sakraba Town Hall authorising village councils under its jurisdiction to address issues relating to road maintenance.

However, the organisation expressed concern that certain individuals and groups engaged in stone quarrying and other developmental activities along the Pfutsero–Phek stretch via Sakraba, Porba, Pholami and Khomi have failed to cooperate with village councils, creating inconvenience to the public.

It cited activities such as extraction of boulders, dumping of excavated soil, construction within the road perimeter, damage to breast walls and piling of debris within the Right of Way (RoW) as detrimental to traffic flow and road safety.

Accordingly, the CCPO has directed those involved to remove, vacate or repair such encroachments on or before February 28 failing which it stated it would not be held responsible for any eventualities.

It further sought public cooperation has been sought in the matter.
