CCSU issue directives to errant doctors

Dimapur, January 6 (MExN): The Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU) conducted a surprise visit at the Tuensang Civil Hospital on January 4, 2011.
The CCSU during the visit learnt that the hospital presently has 14 doctors but to their dismay only one doctor was attending both the indoor and the outdoor patients on that day. The Union in a press statement issued by its assistant general secretary Alfred Lumpong and Press & Information Secretary I. Tochi stated that some of the doctors were found “regularly” neglecting their duties without leave or any valid reason. Therefore, the CCSU has directed the doctors to report to their respective duties on or before January 10, 2011 and if the errant doctors fail to report, the CCSU will take its own course of action.
The CCSU also urged the concerned authority to immediately reassign all the doctors of the Tuensang Civil Hospital who are send off on attachment to other district hospitals/PHCs, as it is highly unethical on the part of the concerned authority to send them on attachment when the Tuensang Civil Hospital is facing extreme shortage of doctors and basic medical care.
The CCSU also noted with “anguish” that the hospital lacks many basic facilities and necessary life-saving tools such as gloves, needles, threads, bandages, anesthesia, etc, which are supposed to be provided to the emergency  patients routinely. The CCSU demands that funds meant for such facilities/tools must be utilized properly and exclusively.
Further, the CCSU noticed the shortage of x-ray technician and junior doctors in the Hospital. Hence, the CCSU urge the concerned authority to appoint one X-ray technician and some junior doctors to meet the immediate needs of the general public of Tuensang.
