The essence of sacrifice is unmistakable. Christmas is more than merely the birth of a child; it is the gift of a son. In order that we may gain Him, the father had to lose Him. However Christmas has become an opportunity for people to revel and get drunk; it has become a secular festival. Christmas has become a Christless mess.
All the truths of Christmas can be condensed into three word “God with us”. Let us celebrate Messiah the light of the world by making Him our super star. There is no room for darkness in Messiah. John 8:12 “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. A gift is given must be received. What are we doing with the gift of the Son? Have we received Him or are we rejecting Him? We must receive His son. This is what Christmas is all about.
“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” John 1:12.
In retrospection, when we look back into our society; we are pre-occupied with hatred among brethren, refusing to reconcile with one another and corruptions at all levels in our society. There is no room for Christ like in the days of Caesars Augustus. The vacuum in our hearts can only be filled by Christ. Jesus himself said, “I will give peace which the world cannot give.” This peace speaks of physical soundness, mental soundness and spiritual soundness. Restoration of peace to man was made possible by God through the birth of Christ. May this coming Christmas bring real peace and joy to us.
