‘Celebrating North East India’ Festival at Milan

Kohima, September 3 (MExN): The North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) is organizing the 17th edition of the mega event: ‘Celebrating North East India Festival’ in association with the Consulate General of India, Milan on September 9 at the historic Museum - Villa Necchi Campiglio, in the fashion capital of the world Milan, Italy.

After the success of last year’s International Edition at Washington DC, USA, this is a huge challenge for NEIFT, led by its CEO and the festival Director Vikram Rai Medhi to showcase the heritage of sustainable textiles of the North East region in the Mecca of Fashion – Milan.

Vikram Rai Medhi, Festival Director, Celebrating North East India Festival said, “The Meghalaya Tourism and Nagaland Tourism have come forward to join hands in presenting the vibrant Region of the Country to the Who’s Who of Milan’s Cultural Connoisseurs and Political Leaders. Ministry of DoNER, Ministry of Textiles, KVIC, Ministry of MSME, etc. has come forward to support and be associated with the Festival.”

Lisapila Aier, Senior PRO, Government of Nagaland while addressing the media said that the festival at Milan will be a curtain raiser for the European tourists as the Hornbill Festival is celebrating its silver jubilee in its next year edition and Milan being the cultural capital of Italy, Nagaland will get an opportunity to showcase its rich heritage to the European community.

Eight fashion designers from the NE will display their collections in sustainable textiles and weaves of the North East to be showcased by top models of the Milan fashion industry.

Folk dancers from the North East will also perform at the venue on September 9. A contingent of delegates from the North East comprising of performers, designers, models, artistes, officials, etc. are travelling to participate and attend the programme.
