The Tokhu Emong cum Mini Hornbill Festival 2024 officially began with the inauguration of Tokhu Stalls at the Public Ground in Wokha on November 4. The event was graced by Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA and Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), as the special guest for the inaugural ceremony. The festival will continue until November 7.

In his address, Humtsoe extended heartfelt Tokhu Emong greetings and urged attendees to embrace the festival's true spirit. He emphasised the significance of unity and collective strength, highlighting the fruitful outcomes that arise from a community working together. Reflecting on the historical contributions of the Lotha community, he noted milestones such as the establishment of the first tribal council in 1923, the 1951 plebiscite, and the 16-Point Agreement in 1960. He underscored Wokha's pivotal role in political and social developments, mentioning the roots of major parties like the BJP, Congress, and LJP in the region.

Humtsoe also reminded the community of the key Naga organisations founded in Wokha, questioning the perception that the Lothas are falling behind. While reflecting on the region's past prosperity, he expressed concern over the current decline in the community's social and economic standing, calling for a renewed commitment to unity and strength.

Er Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman of the Lotha Hoho, welcomed attendees with Tokhu Emong greetings and expressed gratitude to Humtsoe for his presence at the celebrations. He highlighted the importance of Tokhu Emong, noting that the festival is not just an occasion for merriment, but also a time to give thanks to God for good health and the blessings received throughout the year. He reiterated that the festival is about maintaining unity within the community and expressed hope that it would be a source of blessings for all.

The event was chaired by Er. Limhathung Odyou, Joint Secretary of the Lotha Hoho. The invocation and dedicatory prayer for the stalls were offered by Rev. Abemo Jungio, Pastor of WTBC, while Limhathung N Yathan, President of the Lotha Youth Hoho, announced the rules and regulations for stall usage.
