Dimapur | December 15
Residents of Central colony, Walford, Dimapur celebrated advent Christmas on December 15 at the premises of Bethesda Higher Secondary School with H Tovihoto Ayemi, Advisor, Power department being invited as the special guest.
Speaking during the programme, Ayemi appreciated the efforts made by the colony council in hosting the advent Christmas for its residents. He noted that although December can be a busy month, celebrating advent Christmas is a special event anticipating the birth of Christ. “Let’s open up our hearts to Jesus Christ at this time,” he said.
Sharing his personal thoughts, he viewed that Christmas shopping and merry marking are minor events but forgiveness and loving each other during this time shows the true meaning of Christmas.
Besides these points, he observed the changes that have taken place at Central colony where it was once a sparsely inhabited area prone to flooding regularly. But today, the colony has grown in both population and space as well he said. “We can all be good Christians when we start following the teachings of Christ. Wishing the gathering a prosperous and joyous Christmas along with anticipating for the New Year,” he said.
Rev Moses Murry, sharing the word of God, spoke on the meaning of celebrating Christmas which is that ‘Christ must be born into my life.’ He lamented that some people celebrate it in a wrong manner as they are more interested in merry making and buying gifts for each other on top of indulging in immoral activities. But the story about Christ being born in a manger through humble beginnings is what must be remembered by each one of us, he said.
Quoting Luke Chapter 2:20 which says, “And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them,” he urged upon the people to celebrate Christmas in an attitude of praise and worship, in other words, ‘accepting him as your personal saviour.’
“Lets us all continue to celebrate Christmas in our lives,” he concluded.
Earlier, Kato Yeptho, Chairperson of Central Colony, Walford Dimapur gave the welcome address while invocation was done by Evangelist Arpan, LEF. Praise and worship was led by Bethesda AG Youth along with choreography by the Ao education ministry, special songs by Tokhuli Yepthomi and Crown Theological College.
