Dimapur, November 14 (MExN): Dr Sanjay Kumar Shukla (IFS), Member Secretary, Central Zoo Authority (CZA) of India was on a three-day visit to Nagaland from November 10 to 12.
A press release issued by Dr C Zupeni Tsanglai, IFS stated that during his visit, Dr Sanjay Kumar Shukla undertook inspection of the Nagaland Zoological Park, which is a Medium Zoo recognized by CZA and reviewed the upkeep of animals, ongoing conservation breeding programmes and rescue activities taken up by the zoo.
The Conservation Breeding programme of the Asian Brown Tortoise at Nagaland Zoological Park was well appreciated. Consequent to a meeting with the PCCF& HOFF, Nagaland and other senior officers from the department, he visited the State Botanical Garden and Blyth’s Tragopan Conservation Breeding Centre at Kohima.
The Member Secretary provided inputs on improvement of enclosures and upkeep of animals in the zoo, and recommended ways to effectively advance the conservation breeding programmes in the future. He appreciated the initiatives taken by the department in conservation of endangered species and assured continued guidance and technical support from the Central Zoo Authority for the development of the Conservation Breeding Centre.
