Kohima, June 8 (DIPR): According to a press release issued by Chief Electoral Officer, Government of Nagaland, 34.8% voters out of total of 159357 voters from 184 polling stations have been photographed in the first three days of photography of the 25 day long 1st phase of photography campaign for issuance of voter’s identity cards and preparation of Photo Electoral Rolls. While the highest response has been received in Tuensang with 62% followed by Kohima with 45.8% and Mon 44.5% the lowest was in Wokha with 21.4% followed by Longleng with 23.2% (details enclosed). Reports are still awaited from some polling stations. It is expected that the photography campaign will pick up speed in the days to come.
After initial isolated reports of mal-functioning of memory chips in a few polling stations, it was ascertained that the problems had occurred due to non-formatting of the new memory chips as per the instructions contained in the user manual of the camera. All the DC’s and DEO’s were advised yesterday to format every new memory chip and to test the cameras thoroughly before actual photography. As per reports, from the districts, the problems have been resolved and corrective measures are being taken to prevent recurrence of such problems.
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland has requested State Power Department to increase supply of Power to remote districts like, Kiphire, Longleng, Peren etc as recharging of batteries and functioning of communication and IT equipment was vital for success of the campaign. Chief General Manger, BSNL has also been requested to ensure smooth functioning of landline & Mobile communication especially in far off districts for proper communication with BLO’s and Supervisory Officers.
Three Nodal Officers deputed by CEO’s Office are touring all the districts and have already covered the districts of Phek, Kiphire, Tuensang, Longleng and Mon. Other districts will also be covered shortly. Constant monitoring of the campaign is being carried out from the CEO’s Office to address any problems reported in the districts.
