CEO updates voter turnout to 79.14%

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 28 (MExN): A day after polling for the Nagaland State Assembly elections was conducted the Chief Electoral Officer for the State today informed that the final voter turnout for the polls was 79.14%. Till 4:30pm on polling day, the commission had recorded 75% turnout. A press release from the CEO informed the voting percentage was based on information of polling progress updated two hourly by the Returning Officers on the polling day.  

As per data released by the commission, 23 Impur Assembly Constituency under Mokokchung district registered the highest turnout at 95%, followed by 50 Longleng A/C (Longleng district) with 92.12% and 55 Tobu A/C (Mon district) with 92%.  

At the other end of the spectrum, 43 Tapi A/C under Mon district registered the lowest voter turnout at 58%, followed by 42 Wakching (Mon district) and 27 Mokokchung Town (Mokokchung district) with 65% turnout each.  

“The actual voter turnout can only be reported after the arrival of the polling parties to their respective centres which was in progress at the time of filing of this news. The polling percentage is, therefore, subject to change,” the CEO however added.  

Meanwhile, the CEO also informed on the number of counting tables proposed for tabulating the votes. This amounts to a total proposal of 349 counting tables for 2156 polling stations across the state.  

District wise breakdown for the number of counting tables in each district is as follows: Dimapur (34), Peren (14), Kohima (38), Pughoboto (6), Phek (26), Mokokchung (47), Zunheboto (36), Wokha (40), Mon (45), Longleng (14), Tuensang (35) and Kiphire (14).
