Eighteenth century Romantic poet Coleridge’s famous lines ““Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink” (The Rime of the Ancient Mariner) was retold in a different context on Friday, by renowned certified water specialist Michael R Long who said that only 3% of water constituting 70% of Earth’s surface is “fresh water” and potable. “Only 3% of Earth’s water is fresh water, the rest is sea water. If you drink one litre of sea water, it will kill you,” the water specialist said at the symposium on “Perfect water h2o only” and awareness programme on water contamination organized by Elken International, a leader in the network marketing business, here at conference hall of Go-Karting.
He said the world is presently going through water crisis since there is no “new water” and due to the fact that water distribution has changed over the years. Long who is vice president (manufacturing technical service) of Elken International and also the brainchild behind use of Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems for drinking water in the Seoul Summer Olympic Games village, said that water resources today have been exploited, misused and contaminated to such a degree that drinking water is no longer pure.
Most drinking water have biological containments, inorganic chemicals, organic metals, oils, grease and 2,00,000 other deadly commercial chemicals, he said. He also said there is huge presence of drugs in drinking water including painkillers, tranquilizers, antibiotics, anti-depressants and birth control pills.
Cautioning on the dangers of drinking impure water, he said people who drink water, which contains microscopic amount of arsenic, are more prone to catch swine flu and that cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than people whose water do not contain chlorine.
He also disclosed that boiling water before drinking was not as safe as presumed and cited the research of a Chinese doctor who wrote that “if you keep boiling water over and over again, you increase nitrates into toxic that can kill you.” On the much-hyped “mineral water” and the question “Do people need minerals in water?” the water specialist said water is not a natural source of minerals because water is not nutrient.
Long said the human body can only utilize organic/bio-available minerals from living organisms like calcium in milk or iron in spinach and that human urine has 50,000 to 65,000ppm of mineral, which means the kidneys are actually trying to expel excess mineral that cannot be used.
Quoting from New Straits Times, he said, “laboratory test ten brands of bottled water detected 38 chemicals, including bacteria, caffeine, acetaminophen, fertilizers, solvents, plastic-making chemicals and the radioactive element strontium…in some cases, it appears that bottled water is no less contaminated than tap water.” “Even a plastic bottle produces chemical in hot condition,” he added.
What choice then do human beings, who cannot survive more than five days without water, have? Is there was a way to make pure water better – to make pure water perfect? The answer lies in reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment, especially the BIO PURE KEN System introduced by Elken, Long said.
Enumerating on the advantages of BIO PURE KEN, he said this system is the “perfect, most advanced RO purification system that removes virtually all of contaminants – including those other systems leave behind – for Water Made Perfect.” He further claimed that Elken’s cutting-edge technology with its 5-stage RO purification system removes virtually all types of contaminants, even particles including bacteria and viruses as small as 0.0001 micron.
