CGM BSNL reacts to AIBSNLEA’s allegations

Dimapur, Feb 16 (MExN): The Chief General Manager NE-II Circle, Ashok Golas has reacted to the All India Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Employees Association (AIBSNLEA) Nagaland Unit, demanding immediate removal/transfer of on alleged grounds of mismanagement and ‘unprofessional conduct’. The letter addressed to the General Secretary of AIBSNEA alleged that the CGMT had sent his vehicle for repair to Jorhat, Assam for seven days, deputing one TS to CGMT with driver which incurred a ‘huge’ departmental fund to meet the expenses including the necessary TA/DA of the deputed official, when the same could be well repaired at Dimapur itself.

Also the AIBSNLEA charged that Golas was demoralizing officers due to his using unbecoming language which “degraded our integrity and moral values.”  It stated that whenever he visits any field unit Golas questions the integrity of the officers in the presence of their subordinates. “On one occasion he asked DE (Administration) Nagaland SSA, who is a very sincere and senior officer (going to be retired within a year), how much commission he accepted for repair of GMTD departmental vehicle, which met with an accident and the repairing work is covered by Insurance company”, the letter alleged. It also pointed out that the CGM had restricted the tour of all officers ‘which is very difficult in emergency works effecting the maintenance and developmental activities of the SSA’.

The CGM has denied the allegations. “We had asked that the vehicle be sent to an authorized dealer since it cannot be handled by roadside workshops. An authorized dealer was in Guwahati we found out later. However, the vehicle was sent to the nearest authorized dealer at Khatkhati.  On the charge of using unbecoming language, he asked that the ‘abusive words’ and the exact occasion used in be furnished by the concerned officers who had written the letter. He also informed that it was not restriction on officers going on tours but an exercise of protocol. “Everywhere it is a protocol that officers should ask permission from higher, competent authorities before undertaking responsibilities. Even I take permission from my MD whenever I leave for responsibilities” he said adding that disapproval was automatic if permission was not sought.
