State Planning Board (SPB) Deputy Chairman Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu today graced the general session of the Chakhesang Cultural Organization (CCO) at Pfutsero Tourist Lodge.
Speaking on the occasion, he stated that we as Nagas talk about our cultures and traditions every now and then in almost every platform, “but do we as a community, realize that our true values and cultures such as respect for elders, leaders and respect for one another including honesty, rightfulness and hard working cultures are vanishing into thin air?”
“Our honesty as a Christian and as a Naga is almost going extinct. Our hardworking culture is no more to be seen and it is truly sad that all these good cultures of our Nagas for which we were once proud of, is slowly becoming a distant dream. And unless we begin to build and renew this precious value of our cultures once again, our generation will be at a loss,” he said.
Azo said our traditional dresses, dances and folk songs are equally important “but to me cultures such as God fearing nature, respect for humanity, honesty, sincerity and hard-work are more important in human progress and healthy growth in building a nation.”
Today, Nagas have roped in alien cultures such as hatred, revenge, disrespect for humane values, insults, humiliating each other which are destructive in nature, he said adding “When we don't regard or respect each other, who will respect us? Everything has to start from ourselves and our homes.”
Stressing on the need to change for a better society, he said “It is my sincere request and challenge to all the Nagas, that we all change for a better tomorrow, and be a living example of a good God fearing Christian.”
