The Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA) has been checking the sale and possession of liquor at the various locations in Phek district to control the flow of alcohol during the election period.

Talking to The Morung Express, CMA president Zhonelii Tunyi said that this drive has been taken to ensure the peaceful conduct of the state general election scheduled for February 27.

Tunyi  informed that the women societies of all the villages and towns under Chakhesang region has set up check gates (temporary bamboo structure) in their respective jurisdiction in order to control the flow of alcohol and intoxicated substances and anti-social activities that may disturb the peaceful co-existence of the Chakhesang community during the election period.

Tunyi informed that various seizure have been made since February 6 and being destroyed on spot in the presence of the administration and law enforcing agencies.

She said that Chakhesang women are manning the check gate 24 hours, checking every entry of vehicles in the respective jurisdiction.

They (Women) are on the job of sleepless night, she said adding that around 100 check gates have been set up.

She acknowledged the ‘fullest support’ of the Chakhesang Public Organization, Chakhesang Students Union, Chakhesang Youth Front, Chakhesang Clean Election Movement, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society, administration, churches, law enforcing agencies towards the current alcohol free drive of the CMA.

Meanwhile, CMA appealed every citizen to cooperate and contribute for peaceful, free and fair election in Chakhesang region.
