Chakhesang Public Org holds 40th general session

The 40th general session of Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) cum 8th Chakhesang Day was held at Zapami village in Phek district on January 10 with Nagaland Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu as the main speaker.

‘Uphold integrity’
Speaking on the occasion, Kronu urged upon the Chakhesang community to uphold the integrity and unity of the Chakhesang tribe. He maintained that Chakhesangs are known for hardworking, trustworthy and straight forward, for which the people must continue to practice the same for prestige and good image of the Chakhesang community.

He also called for strengthening the hard working culture of the forefathers for a progressive society.

Kronu stressed on the need to conduct a seminar on socio-economic development to draw a comprehensive road map and way forward on human growth and development.

He also called upon the people to continue to abide by the resolutions and stands of the CPO on forest and biodiversity conservation.

He urged upon the people to focus on “Fruit trees for wealth,” to boost the rural economy.

‘Maintain fraternity’ 
MLA Dr Chotisüh Sazo lauded the act of foresight and broad vision of the Chakhesang leaders “who had brought us together and made us as a recognized tribe which has thus far worked to our advantage.”

“Let us maintain the unity and fraternity that is enshrined by our past and pioneer leaders. Let us not divide ourselves because of our different dialects or languages,” he said.

We are a unique group of people. Our identity is honesty, simplicity and hardworking, he said.

Politically, we practice the highest degree of democracy, he said adding “We respect elderly persons. We respect our women.”
He also stressed on the need to strengthen the CPO resolution of banning the import of pig and cattle for meat purpose into Phek district.

MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu called upon the people to strengthen Chakhesang unity and also help one another and live in unison. He also stressed on the need to focus more on entrepreneurship/ business activities.

MLA Kezhienyi Khalo expressed deep concern over the mushrooming organizations and suggested that effort be made to rectify the same. Khalo also urged the Chakhesang community to strive for excellence in every field to survive in a competitive world.

CPO president Mikha Kenye said that since the assumption of the office of CPO on January 15, 2019, the team have committed to give it best to attend the assigned responsibilities. The foremost duty is to uphold the image and integrity of CPO and to maintain peace and unity amongst Chakhesang community and to create peaceful atmosphere under CPO jurisdiction, he said. He said that special attention was also given towards the ongoing developmental projects under Phek district.

CPO new team announced 
CPO new team for the tenure 2022-2025 has been announced during the session by search committee convenor Hüsazü Epao. It will be headed by Vezühü Keyho as president and Kelelo Mero as general secretary.

Installation of the new team and act of blessing was done by Rev Khrotso Mero, executive secretary Chakhesang Baptist Church.

Condemns AFSPA and 'Disturb Area' tag 
Resolution Committee member Wepe Mekrisuh read out the adopted resolutions. In resolution, the CPO “vehemently condemned the treacherous attitude of the Government of India for misjudged extension of AFSPA (1958) in Nagaland and termed as 'Disturb Area' for another period of 6 (six) months w.e.f. 30th December, 2021.”

The CPO resolved to uphold unity of the Nagas and appealed all the section of the Nagas to shun enmity and violence amongst the tribes. To give prior emphasis on the Human Resource Development in the field of education, the CPO has resolved to conduct a seminar in co-ordination with CSU, Frontal Organisations including all VECs for the improvement of educational system in the village.

The CPO has unanimously resolved to re-affirm the resolution adopted during its 38th CPO General Session on January 10, 2020 at Phek Town and CPO Resolution of Chakhesang Tribe 75th Anniversary celebration on January 10, 2021 at Phek Town.
Earlier, the session was chaired by CPO finance secretary Dozhohü Tünyi.
