‘Chakka bandh’ intensifies in Mkg

PTUM support MDTOA demands, declares indefinite strike

Mokokchung, May 9 (MExN): In light of the ‘chakka bandh’ called by the Mokokchung District Truck Owners Association against the poor condition of the Mokokchung-Mariani road, the Pick-up Truck Union Mokokchung (PTUM) held an emergency executive meeting on May 9 and thoroughly deliberated on the issue.

The PTUM meeting observed the grievances of the MDTOA as genuine and therefore unanimously resolved to support the chakka bandh and agreed to extend unwavering support to the MDTOA by calling an indefinite strike within Mokokchung district.

During this strike period, all pick-up trucks will stop plying from 6:00 am on May 10 till further notice. Any pick-up truck driver or owner not heeding to the call of the PTUM will be dealt with as per the laid down rules of the Union.

The PTUM expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to the general public, yet it stated that it has no option but to support the common cause for the wellbeing of all the transporters. Therefore, the Union has appealed for the general public to bear with the inconveniences caused by the indefinite strike since it is for the welfare of every section of the society.

The PTUM further appealed for the authority concerned to initiate immediate steps and take concrete actions to fulfill the genuine demands at the earliest for the convenience of the citizens.

This was stated in a press release issued by PTUM, President Senti Jamir and General Secretary, C. Temsupokba Jamir.
