Chang community of Kohima celebrates Naknyulum

The Chang community of Kohima today celebrated its premier festival Naknyulum in the different parts of the state capital Kohima under the auspices of Chang Union Kohima (CUK).


Naknyulum is a time to celebrate the victory of light over darkness.


Joining other colonies, Chang community from Old Minister’s Hill, New Minister’s Hill, Jail Colony, PR Hill, Paramedical, Officers’ Hill and Agri & Forest came together in unison and celebrated the festival with much pomp and traditional gaiety at the official residence of CM Chang, minister for environment, forest & climate change and justice & law. 


Chang, who hosted the festival, said that the celebration of festival brings the feeling of oneness.


Stating that Nagaland is the land of festivals and the festivals brings the community closer, the minister stressed on the need to develop the feeling of affection and care for one another.


CUK advisor N Toshi in his speech, stressed on the need to practice the good traditional values of the forefathers.
He also stressed on the need to change one’s attitude and approach to make a vibrant Nagaland.


 “As we celebrate this festival, the Union wish that it would promote and revive our dying rich culture and tradition amongst youngsters,” stated CUK president Tiameren Chang and general secretary W.B. Mongko Chang in greetings read out on the occasion by Changsang Soted.


The CUK decided to observe Naknyulum festival this year in four zones (East, West, North and South of Kohima) so as to accurately enumerate the census of the Chang community residing in Kohima.


The Union appealed to all the Changs to celebrate the festival with enthusiasm and a vision to keep tradition alive.
“Let us celebrate this festival with a fresh perspective, and bridge the gap between different tribes of Nagaland for oneness and co-existence” stated CUK.


The significance of Naknyulum was highlighted by I Chingmak.


The programme was chaired by K Yemna Onen while vote of thanks was proposed by CUK treasurer N. Kaimang.
Cultural songs and indigenous games marked the celebration.


Phowang Konyak, advisor fire & emergency services, SIRD and relief & rehabilitation, Namri Nchang, advisor water resources and Dr Longriniken, advisor treasuries & accounts and national highways and several other dignitaries also joined the festival.
