Chang students to launch ‘indefinite agitation’ over relocation of Tuensang DIET from June 13

Tuensang, June 11 (MExN): The Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference) has informed that it “will start indefinite agitation at Tuensang HQ from June 13,” over the government’s failure to relocate the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Tuensang.

In a press release on Saturday, the CWS informed that it had submitted a 15-day ultimatum to the Nagaland Commissioner earlier on May 12, asking the authorities to implement an order dated June 11, 2019, regarding ‘Acquisition of Land for Relocation of DIET at Tuensang.’

Shedding light on the scenario, the CWS maintained that the Conference had “appealed the responsible authorities by submitting numerous letters for the same,” in addition to holding various talks with the competent authorities, and taking the initiative to assist in implementing the same for nearly a decade.

The CWS also stated that “the Government of Nagaland, Department of SCERT, Nagaland and the Land Owners (witness by Chang Students’ Conference and Village Council Chongpo Khel Tuensang Village) had signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the relocation of DIET at Tuensang,” on four occasions—on June 27, 2017, on May 8, 2018, on September 8, 2019 and more recently on March 16, 2022. “However, the Government/ Department has not made the required payment for the proposed land so far.”

This, it said, further hinders the progress of the DIET institution, causing hardship for the students to pursue or undergo training due to lack of infrastructure.
