DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Gaonburas (Village Chiefs) Federation (NGBF) on Saturday stated that changing the nomenclature of ‘gaonbura,’ in either towns or villages is unacceptable. “The GBship is an institution and its responsibilities to safeguard the customary laws and traditions have been in practice since time immemorial,” they reasoned.
According to a press statement issued by its media cell, the federation had made this resolution among others, during an executive meeting of the federation held on December 13 at the Tourist Lodge Dimapur. “Under any condition, the nomenclature of the GB should not be changed,” the statement added.
Furthermore, the NGBF warned that taking action on any GBs by any authority without proper verifications and necessary procedures will not be tolerated. “The federation will take stern actions against them,” they said.
The federation also appealed to the Government of India (GoI) and negotiating groups to expedite the peace process and request to all the UG factions to come together for the final Naga political solution. In regards to maintenance allowances, retirement and in case of demise, the NGBF had resolved to appeal for enhancements of GBs entitlements as well.
