The Ao Senden during its general assembly held here at town hall today resolved to annul Ao citizenship to the people of Changki village. This resolution, according to Ao Senden, was adopted after taking into consideration the opinion of all the federating units of the Senden. The resolution was adopted after majority of the house, by show of hands approved of it.
Today’s resolution (translated from Ao) stated that ‘Ao Senden honors the wishes of Changki village and decree that, from this day on, the 15th of September 2009, Changki villagers are not Ao.’ The Ao Senden found Changki village ‘acting in contravention to Ao customary practices’ and was disturbed at the opinion of Changki village that they did not migrate from Chungliyimti and Koridang. Further, Ao Senden did not like it when Changki published and circulated that they were unaware of the formation of Ao Senden nor its existence.
The Ao Senden however stated that if Changki village wishes to return to the Ao community, they must conform to two conditions: Changki village must denounce their propagation against Ao customs and withdraw their statement that they are not aware of the apex Ao Senden; secondly, Changki must adhere with Ao customs and conventions. Further, the house empowered the federal assembly of Ao Senden to work out the modalities in relation to the resolution.
