Dimapur, January 12 (MExN): The Changtongya and Akhoya Village Council today said that the election to Urban Local Bodies in Nagaland was called by the government “against the wishes of the stakeholders” and the people had responded accordingly
In this regard, a joint statement issued by Chairman of Akhoya Kosasanger Putu Menden S Kilang Lkr and Chairman Changtongya Kosasanger Putu Menden, I Kumzuk Lkr said that since the election was against the sentiment of the people, the traditional landowner of Changtongya and Akhoya Village combined with the All Ward Chairman Forum (Changtongya Town) resisted and boycott the “so called election.“
The two village authorities expressed appreciation to the public for “whole heartedly” supporting the boycott call and also the intending candidates for their cooperation and abstaining from filing nomination.
If the State Government does not positively respond to the demand of the public we shall continue to boycott the ULB election in future too, the two councils further reiterated. Meanwhile, the two councils vehemently condemned the “modus-operandi of the concern authority” by extending date for filing of nomination and questioned arbitrary shifting of location for filing nomination.
How did the authority arbitrarily shifted three locations within four hours for filing nomination paper( from Changtongya to Tuli then to Chuchuyimlang) though there was no law and order problems in and around Changtongya Town?, it added.
The Changtongya and Akhoya Village Council, in this connection, demanded to know from the concerned authority as to why such an “extra judicial power were exercised against the wishes of the peace loving citizen.”
