The Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) defeated Chieneinuo Brothers Kiruphema (CBK), in the finals to emerge as the winner of the 3rd All Nagaland Open Volleyball Tournament in the evening of December 9.

The tournament was organised by Horua Welfare Society from December 8-9 at Indisen Public Ground, Dimapur.

Playing in front of a packed crowd, the CVA delivered a disciplined performance, turning the ‘Best of Five’ final match into a one-sided affair and securing the championship in three straight sets (25-22, 25-16, and 25-16). The overwhelming crowd support, perhaps, buoyed the team.

This marks the second tournament win for the CVA, the volleyball powerhouse from Changtongya under Mokokchung district, having previously triumphed in the inaugural edition in 2019.

In the semifinals, the CVA overcame its arch-rival and 2nd edition champions MH-10, while CBK emerged victorious over the Kimipfüphe Volleyball Club.

The champions, CVA, walked away with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, while the runner-up, CBK, received Rs 60,000. The 3rd and 4th placed teams were awarded Rs 15,000 each. Meanwhile, CVA’s Sarilepzung and Bendangtemsu were adjudged the ‘Best Setter’ and ‘Best Spiker’ respectively.

Kethovikho Zinyu of CBK was declared the player of the tournament. The individual prize winners were awarded Rs 5,000 each.

The final was graced by the former Nagaland Chief Secretary Toshi Aier, who attended as the special guest.
