The Chanka Colony Women Council, Wokha Town (CCWC) celebrated its 25th Jubilee on January 9 at the residence of Dr Zubon Humtsoe under the theme “Women Who Inspire Change.”
In her theme address, Thungchano Kikon, Councillor of Ward 10, Wokha Town, highlighted the importance of women in all spheres of life. Women play a vital role not only within the family but also in society at large, particularly in nurturing children with values, discipline and compassion, she noted.
Kikon further stressed that a strong society begins at home, where mothers act as the first teachers and role models. Calling women agents of positive change, she encouraged them to remain resilient, united and proactive in contributing to social harmony and development.
In her 25th Jubilee and New Year greetings, Thungbeni Ngullie, President of the Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH), spoke on the cultural significance of women and their responsibility in preserving traditions and moral values. She also expressed appreciation to Dr Humtsoe for allowing the use of his space to conduct the programme, as the colony currently does not have a community hall, and encouraged ward councillors to continue their committed service to the colony.
Addressing contemporary issues, Ngullie spoke on the use of mobile phones among the youth, highlighting both their advantages and drawbacks. While acknowledging their value as tools for learning, communication and exposure, she cautioned that misuse could negatively affect behaviour, discipline and cultural values. She called upon parents and elders to guide children towards balanced and responsible use of technology.
Ngullie further lauded the CCWC for its unity and teamwork in sustaining the Council for 25 years, and paid tribute to past members for serving as torchbearers in its formation, noting that its existence today rests on their vision and dedication.
CCWC President Nzanrhoni Yanthan chaired the programme and welcomed the gathering. A silent prayer in remembrance of departed members was led by Mhalo W Kikon, while highlights on the formation of the Council were presented by N Yilano Tungoe.
Invocation was offered by Shumbeni Tsopoe, Deaconess, PBC while prayer for blessings was offered by Emilo Tungoe.
The Jubilee souvenir was released by Ngullie, followed by felicitation, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Nribeni Humtsoe, General Secretary of the CCWC.
The celebration marked a significant milestone in recognising the role of women in shaping families, society and the community.
