Kohima, July 24 (MExN): The Health Department has clarified that the Rs 1,500 charge for TrueNat COVID-19 testing is specified only for “special categories of non-resident people who need to enter Nagaland for a short duration for urgent essential work or for unavoidable reasons.”

Citing reports that appeared in local dailies on Friday, a clarification was issued by Principal Director for Health and Family Welfare, stating that the standard operating procedure (SOP) in question “is not for returnees or general public,” but for special category of people whose services are urgently required but may be deterred from entering the state because of the total 28 days of quarantine period

The special categories include skilled labourers, mechanics, technicians, engineers, etc who need to enter the state for providing services in sectors like power, telecom, transport, upkeep of medical equipments/labs etc., or for unavoidable reasons.

While the special category also includes government servants who need to enter the state and immediately start performing duties, it said, those who are on official government duty will be exempted from testing charge., it said.

Further, it said “this special category of people whose services are urgently required but may be deterred to enter the state by 14 days of facility quarantine and 14 days of home quarantine requirement are being facilitated by this special SOP” which was issued on June 17.
