MON, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): Chen Wetnyu Village was declared as the first tobacco free village in Mon district during the DLCC district level coordination meeting under National Tobacco Control Program held at DC conference hall, Mon on November 20.
Dr Esther Chophy Ngullie, District Nodal officer, NTCP said that it was the only village that fulfilled the criteria of tobacco free village guidelines.
Also 10 schools from Tizit and 9 schools from Wakching were declared as tobacco free schools. ADC Mon Pakon Phom, in his speech, encouraged the village council and the schools to maintain their tobacco free status. The ADC also said that enforcement squad at Tobu, Naginimora, Chen and Wakching will be formed shortly. Chairman of Chen Wetnyu Village said that since 1961 there is ban on sale of intoxicants like drugs, alcohol, tobacco etc inside their village. Tajber Singh, Principal PM Shri JNV Wakching said that awareness program is the first step towards fight against any intoxicant substances. The meeting was attended by CMO Dr Supongmenla Walling, Dy CMO Dr Aonungdok, Addl SP, Illam Lungalang, SDO Ajit Kumar and representatives from ANPSA, KNSK, KSU, MCCI, DEO office among others.
