Chenwotnyu face heat with water scarcity

Dimapur, June 15 (MExN): The Chenwotnyu Village, under Mon district,  today expressed its unhappiness the Chief Engineer of Nagaland PHED over failure to supply good drinking water to the villagers though the he has promised ‘settle down all problems facing the  district, especially water scarcity’. 

An open letter to the Chief Engineer of PHED Nagaland, appended by the Chairman of the Chenwotnyu Village Council, PM. Nockpai Konyak, pointed out that for many years, the people of Chen area under Mon district are facing problem of water scarcity.

Konyak alleged that the Chief Engineer has failed to keep his words, which he has promised in the past about providing the necessary facilities to the villagers.

“In the year 2005, 28th April you have promised us to settle down all the problems facing in the district, especially water scarcity. Along with your staff members taught us how to utilize water supply, sanitation and hygiene. Nevertheless, words failed to turn into action,” he said and added that the villager in most part of the Chenwotnyu villages do not enjoy the facility of drinking good and hygienic pipe water supplied by the PHED.

Konyak also put forth some records about certain un-kept promises by the Chief Engineer with regards to water supply and sanitation in the area. 

He said that in 2005, the Chief Engineer PHED Nagaland, Kohima conducted a seminar on water supply, sanitation and hygiene at Chui village. Konyak said that the CE promised to construct “latrines” in all the villages and towns under Mon district within 2006 and ‘promised’ to invite two persons each from every village for training. Konyak also said that they were asked to deposit Rs. 300 each from every household for construction of “latrine”, however, Konyak lamented that till now, no action has been initiated towards the end. 

“As a result of failing the promises now they are in problems” Konyak said.  In this regard, the Chenwotnyu Village Council chairman requested the Chief Engineer of PHED to clarify if the Nagaland government has indeed released the fund for the said PHED project or whether the department had failed to implement the works though the funds had been release by the government. 

“It is my humble supplication for your kind clarification of failing to implement as per your commitments,” Konyak appealed the PHED Chief Engineer.

“Augmentation of development programs will definitely gain more confident on authorized person and the State Government in general” he added.
