KOHIMA MARCH 22 (MExN): The Chief Engineer, PHED, Kohima Division has diverted Rs 2.05 crore meant for improvement of water supply projects in Kohima town for purchase or repair of departmental vehicles, said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. It also said that the department irregularly appointed work charged staff and incurred expenditure of Rs 1.51 crore on wages defeating the government’s purpose of effecting economy in spending.
Accountant General, RM Johri, briefing the press today said that another department which is dogged with anomalies is the State Transport department. CAG reports said that underutilization of fleet, low vehicle productivity, delay in tariff revision, excess expenditure on purchase, overstaffing and inefficient ticket management led to the department suffering sustained losses to the tune Rs 60.79 crore in 2000-05 which accumulated to Rs 164.63 crore as on March 2005.
The department suffered a loss of potential revenue of Rs 2.12 crore due to decrease in vehicle productivity of buses on road from 132.53 km to 112.52 km. The department incurred expenditure of Rs 13.78 crore on excess staff and shortfall of potential revenue amounting to Rs 50.72 crore due to low staff productivity. Reports also said that NST incurred excess expenditure of Rs 1. 77 crore on purchase of tyres, tubes and flabs from local firms instead of from manufacturers’ authorized dealers. Further 6.02 lakh tickets value at Rs 6.53 crore were not accounted for by three stations, according to the CAG report.
