Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) appeals

DIMAPUR, JULY 21 (MExN): The Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) has made a strong appeal urging the public to not resort to violent actions against departmental officials performing official duties.

A press note from the Chief Engineer’s Office PWD (R&B) reported that two officials of the Nagaland State PWD (R&B) were manhandled on July 19 at Npangreu River when they were on duty to inspect the damage of the subways of bridges under construction between Punglwa and Jalukie. The two officials were identified as an Executive Engineer of Peren division and an SDO of Jalukie division.

“It is very unfortunate that the public should resort to such violent actions while performing official duties. The unprecedented rains during the year have damaged many roads and bridges in the State causing much inconvenience to the public. However, such damages caused during natural calamities cannot be controlled and restored or set right within a few days time. The Departmental site officers are working under constrained circumstance and are trying their level best so that the road users are not inconvenienced. Therefore, I appeal to the public to show restraint and understand the situation before resorting to such inhuman actions,” the Chief Engineer urged.

The press note meanwhile urged the concerned authority to take appropriate action on the culprits.

The Association of Engineers, Nagaland PWD, AOE (NPWD) in a separate press note condemned the incident and said that “such actions by any individual shall only create misunderstanding between the department and the public and thereby, demoralize the serving officers of the department.” It further requested the concerned authority to take appropriate action against those involved.
