Kohima, July 9 (PTI): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today apologised in the assembly for the Forest minister’s failure to reply to questions related to a reserve forest in Mon district of the state. Opposition legislators had asked about the status of Wangla bamboo forest which was taken up for bamboo cultivation under National Bamboo Mission and also referred to a media report alleging that Forest Minister M C Konyak grabbed forest land in a nearby reserve forest. When members repeatedly demanded the status of Wangla bamboo forest, the chief minister intervened and tendered an apology for the failure of the department to submit the latest information. Rio suggested for a half-an-hour discussion on the topic in the House during the current budget session, which was agreed by Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie.
169 rape cases registered since 1990

Replying to a question today in the floor of the House, minister for Home, Imkong L. Imchen said 169 rape cases have been registered in the state since 1990 till June 30, 2009. The year wise rape cases registered is 1990 - 1, 1991 - 3, 1992 - 1, 1993 - 2, 1994 - 2, 1995 - Nil, 1996 - 4, 1997 - 9, 1998 - 13, 1999 - 5, 2000 - 16, 2001 - 11, 2002 - 9, 2003 - 7, 2004 - 14, 2005 - 18, 2006 - 20, 2007 - 10, 2008 - 14 and 2009 - 10. Further, 208 persons were arrested and 171 persons convicted, the minister said.
8 salary cheats detected
Kohima, July 9 (mexn): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said a total of eight cases of fraudulent withdrawal of salaries were detected in the departments of Higher & Technical Education, Power, Cooperation, School Education and Police during 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2009 till date. Replying to a question on the floor of the House today, the chief minister said action has been taken accordingly by the government against those responsible in all the cases.
