Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today termed as ‘a very positive development’ the move of the NSF of getting themselves seriously involved in the noble cause of promoting HIV/AIDS. Rio was speaking during the launching ceremony of the Project Care, an undertaking of the NSF, supported by the SSA and NSACS in the Zonal Council Hall this morning.
It was the first time the NSF was directly participating as implementing agency of government’s sponsored development programme through the signing of MoU, Rio said and termed it as “a very positive development.”
The latest development, he said, will enable the NSF and the government to work together side by side for the common objectives, instead of working at cross purposes, or confronting and blaming each other.
“I am confident that this arrangement will succeed, because the NSF with its vast network of dedicated student manpower, spread over every nook and corner of the state, is in an advantageous position to implement this Project Care with maximum impact and results,” Rio said.
The Chief Minister said that most of the educated youth will get themselves involved in helping every child to get the right to education and saving mankind from the most dreadful scourge of HIV/AIDS.
“It is going to give a new sense of involvement and satisfaction to our youth and help them in developing the right attitudes and values,” Rio said adding that this in turn should be translated into a mass movement and act as a catalyst in transforming the whole society.
Referring to universalization of elementary education, Rio maintained that it was now the right of every child in India to receive elementary education. He also stated it was the duty of every parent to give their children elementary education and at the same time every educated person to help the parents in fulfilling this parental obligation.
Referring to HIV/AIDS, Rio said that the menace has become the most dangerous and number one enemy of humankind on this planet.
“If unchecked, it has the potential to destroy us all,” he said and challenged the people to learn lessons from the African experience where the scourge of AIDS has already eliminated or disabled large sections of their work forces and threatened to doom the lives of the children, including unborn babies.
Rio also appealed to the students and all other organizations to work together in the spirit of cooperation and accommodation, remembering that they work for a common cause.
