CHIEPHOBOZOU: NSRLM reducing poverty through sustainable livelihood

Kohima, January 30 (MExN): Financial Inclusion Mela organised by DAY-NSRLM, Block Mission Management Unit Chiephobozou RD Block was held at Chiephobozou Ground on January 28.
Vitsizo Semou, DC-MIS DMMU, Kohima said that the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) believes even the poorest have the ability to come out of poverty if they are given the right guidance, training and education. The goal of NRLM is to reduce poverty through sustainable livelihood.
He highlighted about the mission saying that NSRLM has four thematic which are Institutional Building Capacity Development (IBCD), Financial Inclusion (FI), Livelihood including both farm and non-farm, and Management Information System (MIS). He said that there are specialists and professionals in all the management level units viz State, District and Block level for all the four thematic.
He mentioned that it is the third year of implementation of NSRLM in Chiephobopzou Block and they already formed two levels of institutions which are Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Village Level Organisation (VLO), and by the end of March, they plan to form a Block Federation. At present there are 216 SHGS and 21 VLOs, he stated.
Highlighting about the SHGs, he said that only the women folks are included in the group and they are trained and nurtured on how to maintain record books, manage and work as a team and how to manage a good self help group. After three months of group formation they provide them a revolving fund of Rs 15000.
He highlighted about the funds given out to the community till now. More than 204 SHGs have been given a start up fund of Rs 2000 each amounting to Rs 4 lakh 8 thousand. 206 SHGs out of 216 from Chiephobozou Block has received revolving fund amounting to Rs 30 lakh 90 thousand. 21 VLOs were given a grand start up of INR 60,000 each amounting to total of 12 lakh 60 thousand, and they have also been given fund for community investment amounting to 24 lakh 30 thousand.
